Community Forests in Western-Tsumkwe
location of M'Kata community forest

At present the only community forests in Otjozondjupa Region are located in Western-Tsumkwe. With an area of about 86765 ha, M'Kata is the biggest community forest in Namibia already legally registered, whilst Grashoek Kanovlei, Luhebo Sawmill, Pespeka, Omatako South and Mangetti South are in the process of registration. The forests and woodlands comprise many valuable tree species that are managed by the Forest Management Committees (FMC's) of the local communities.
