| Communities intending to establish
their own community forest need to meet specific requirements
for its legal registration as they are stipulated in the Forest
Act 2001.
To fulfil these requirements, CFNEN supports communities with/in:
- The organization of their Forest Management Bodies
Awareness creation, election and training of Forest
Management Committees (FMC)
- Capacity building
Provision of expertise and training in improved forest management
practices like regeneration/cultivation, sustainable use of
forest resources, fire protection etc.
- Participatory rural appraisal (PRA)
- Land use planning
Regenarating and harvesting areas, integration of other
land use types like grazing zones, areas for cultivation, etc.
- Area surveying
- Boundary demarcation
In agreement with neighbouring communities and traditional
authorities
- Mapping
Drawing up of maps - indicating boundaries, land use types,
available forest resources etc.
- Resource assessment
Inventory of resources/tree species (quantity, quality, location)
- Monitoring
Patroling, record keeping, reporting system, etc.
- Forest Management Plans
Forest activities, sustainable utilization of forest
resources, etc.
